Cherries & Strawberries event awarded state tourism grant

The Member for Member, Don Nardella MLA has welcomed a grant from the Andrews Labor Government to assist with the show casing of the Bacchus Marsh Cherries & Strawberries Festival to visitors from Victoria and beyond.

The funding, of $4,000 announced by Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, will support the staging and marketing of this popular local event.

The annual Strawberries and Cherries Weekend celebrates the arrival of the first spring crop, with fresh produce available for purchase and ‘pick your own’ activities.

The Labor Government has awarded Country Victoria Events Program grants across the state, encouraging small-scale events to engage local communities and attract both day and overnight visitors. A total of 19 grants have been awarded.

Regional Victoria’s impressive calendar of events are a key component of the state’s $10.9 billion regional economy, keeping visitor rates healthy and creating jobs for regional Victorians.

The Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, said:

Regional Victoria’s tourism stocks are strong under a Labor Government. We understand the crucial role it plays driving the local economy and creating jobs.

These grants are designed to help local communities showcase their strengths to visitors from around Victoria and beyond.

 Don Nardella MLA said:

The Strawberries & Cherries festival is an eagerly anticipated event on the Bacchus Marsh calendar. I encourage everyone to get along and see for themselves what a great show we put on.

Events like these keep our local economy strong. They bring visitors to our region, keeping our motels, shops and cafes busy – and that means jobs.
